Miles

Since 1983, more than 2 million children in North Texas have learned about personal safety from The Women’s Center Play it Safe!® program. Miles is one of those children. Now a 6th grader at a local middle school, Miles vividly remembers the first time he heard the Play it Safe!® presentation as a 5th grader.

After watching “Aiden’s Discovery”—the video presented to 5th grade students about a boy who discloses the sexual abuse of a close friend to a trusted teacher—Miles realized he too knew of a close friend in an abusive situation. Although his friend entrusted him with this very troubling secret, Miles knew the information needed to be shared with someone who could help. “I told my mom, but then, just in case she didn’t do anything, I told my school counselor because I really wanted to make sure my friend was safe,” recalls Miles.

“Really proud! That’s how I feel knowing I helped,” Miles said.
