Turning Silence Into Safety

75,626 Children and Adults Served in 2023

Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults happen to children ages 17 and under. Child sexual abuse is one of the most underreported crimes for many reasons:

  • Sexual abuse can be very confusing for children as it often involves being hurt by a trusted adult.
  • Very young children may not have yet developed the language skills needed to communicate abuse.
  • Some children believe the abuse is their fault. Many who rely on the abuser for love, shelter and security fear repercussions for themselves, their families and even the offender if they tell.

The best way to address violence is to stop it before it ever happens. At The Women’s Center, that’s our goal. And we accomplish it through education.

Our programs are designed to educate individuals of all ages and occupations about violence prevention. We do this by providing:

  • In-school curriculum for kids and teens through Play it Safe!®
  • Training for adults regarding violence in their homes, workplaces, and online.
  • Tools for professionals to use to ensure they’re trauma-informed no matter where they work.

The program is evidence-based and teaches kids to recognize potentially abusive behavior, respond to threatening situations, and report abuse to a trusted adult.
