When 37-year old Sherita arrived at The Women’s Center, she was living in a shelter with her five children. After her initial connection with the General Counseling Program, she joined the Employment Solutions Program to pursue a career in truck driving.

After completing training and obtaining her license, Sherita accepted a job at a local trucking company earning $23,000 per year. One year later, she accepted another driving position at a major, national corporation, earning well over $50,000 per year with benefits. She has purchased and paid for two cars and is working toward purchasing her first home.

When she was a client, she received resources from our Back-to-School and Holiday Programs. Sherita is now helping others by sponsoring a client family through the Holiday Program. “My family and I once struggled with how we were going to get Christmas gifts. The Women’s Center brought cheer and warmth to us. Now, as a family, we are able to shop, give and be a blessing at Christmas. What a joyful experience it is to help a fantastic family and teach my children the significance of giving!”
