TWC Legal Clinic

General Counseling

The Women’s Center hosts a free legal clinic for people in the community who need advice concerning issues around family, estate or tenant law. Volunteer attorneys are able to help those most in need by providing answers to legal questions, orienting clients in their legal rights, and directing clients to valuable legal resources, many of which are free. They help steer people in the right direction so they can continue to make strides toward bettering their lives.

“When I came to the legal clinic, I didn’t have any idea of how to start a divorce and what to expect according to Texas law. But after talking with the attorney, I felt so confident that I filed by myself and saved money I couldn’t afford to spend,” said Christine*.

For Donna, a client receiving therapy in the General Counseling Program, the clinic changed the trajectory of her life. While in therapy, she disclosed that her husband was abusive. Her counselor sent her to the Legal Clinic, where after hearing her story, the lawyer encouraged her to leave that same night. Donna took the advice. “I know the legal clinic saved my life! From the time I walked through the doors of The Women’s Center, I was treated with care from every single person. I am forever grateful.”

The clinic is not only beneficial to clients, but a gratifying experience for the attorneys. “The Legal Clinic is incredibly rewarding. I get the opportunity to sit down with folks who have problems and uncertainty, and I get the privilege of watching them leave with hope and peace of mind. It is well worth my time,” said volunteer attorney Ross F. Tew.

The legal clinic is held on the 2nd Thursday of the month in our Fort Worth office, on the 3rd Thursday of the month at our Arlington office and virtually on the 4th Thursday of the month. For more information or to register to attend, please call 817.927.4000.
